Orange the world, united to fight violence against women

Orange the world against violence

One color, 16 days to fight violence against women and girls. Confalonieri Matite supports Orange the World, the international campaign – created by UN Women – from today, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women: this year’s theme is “Fund, Prevent, Respond, Collect!”, calling for urgent response to the alarming surge in violence against women and girls seen this year.
Even before COVID-19, violence against women was one of the most widespread violations of human rights, but in the past few months a “shadow pandemic” of violence against women became evident in many countries.

States and institutions must act, but we all know that these actions alone are not enough. We want these 16 days to be an opportunity to think about a future without gender-based violence.
And we need to act, every day.

Unite to reject every form of violence against women and girls.

Pay attention to people around us who might be in distress.

Inform people about helplines against violence: 1522 in Italy or the national/regional helplines working across Europe.

Learn and show others the signal for help, the hand gesture women and girls can use – in a videocall, on social networks or in person – to alert others that they need help.
