Zero pigments, a lot of beneficial qualities: a good lip balm is a staple of a skincare and beauty routine, applied before makeup or by itself. Developing a lip balm formula means bringing texture and functional ingredients to the fore: we can add aromas or a pinch of pigments to create a slight colour, but the focus is on the beneficial effects for the lips.
Nourishing, first of all
A must-have ingredient in a lip balm pencil is definitely coconut oil. It has practically all the useful properties we’re looking for in this kind of product: it’s nourishing, rich in vitamins and antioxidants, moisturizing and it’s easy to preserve inside a texture, something we must keep in mind at the formulation stage. Our R&D team has developed a formula that contains a high percentage of coconut oil, creating a smooth and rich texture, very pleasant on the lips, with a subtle gloss effect.
Your flavour of choice
Neutral or flavoured? As you prefer. For our Gentleman line we’ve developed a fragrance-free lip balm with a pleasant neutral taste, but we’re constantly expanding our range of aromas.
We started with a basic range that included a few flavours, then gradually we added other aromas for customised private label lines. Moreover, we’ve tweaked the basic texture to create a body butter with various fragrances. We’re able to customise the pencils and experiment with different versions because we work with high quality raw materials and choose safe and multifunctional ingredients.
Hyaluronic acid
When it comes to skincare and makeup products, hyaluronic acid is definitely a key player. Using this ingredient in anhydrous formulas has always been a problem, but we found the right solution with an implementation of the microspheres technology. Our HP/HA line contains a high percentage of hyaluronic acid and includes a lip balm: it’s colourless and has a very smooth texture, easy to apply and pleasant on the skin.
The texture of the lip balm can also become a component of double-point pencils, combining it with another lip product from our range. Our R&D department is already working on some ideas: which combination would you like to include in a private label line?
