Creativity in action: turning ideas into makeup pencils

When we mention creativity, in the world of makeup probably you'll think about colours, effects and new looks. For a company like Confalonieri, however, creativity means knowing how to turn ideas into functional products, ready for the market: for us, the practical side of the production process and the technical tools are crucial.

Technology and projects

Over the years we have constantly invested in the technological update of our R&D laboratory and our production lines, but also on solutions that help us transpose our experience and creativity into innovative pencils.

A few years ago, for example, we wondered how to combine in one pencil the best features of the two traditional technologies: the long-lasting effect and the stability typical of textures made by extrusion, plus the colour release and intense payoff of the pencils made by moulding. The goal is to enhance the performance, ease of use and stability of our formulas.

Innovative solutions

The answer is a solution that we’re very proud of, a new equipment studied and designed by the Confalonieri team. It’s a device that enables us to produce, by extrusion, pencils with a colour release comparable to pencils obtained by moulding a liquid bulk.

The device works on the internal structure of the bulk, through forced heat exchange and thermal shock: this allows to process by cold extrusion even formulas that wouldn’t be suitable for this process. Thus we can create a pencil with the best features of both technologies.

Full customisation

Another example is worth mentioning. The finishes of a pencil are essential when creating fully customised private label products: colours, graphics, matt or glossy effects... In Confalonieri we use both hot foil printing and silk-screen printing, with a new generation machine that allows us to use many different colors.
