Bright details for winter: the secrets of metallic colours

Silver, bronze, platinum and every possible shade: metallic colours are a key point in this year’s autumn-winter make-up, with intense tones on the eyes or bright accents that add a touch of brilliance to the look. At Confalonieri we are particularly fond of pencils with a metallic finish, perfect for playing with different shades and creating unique looks. Let’s take a closer look at how we create the best textures for pencils with this effect.

Pearls and foil

Metallic finishes are traditionally achieved by using aluminium or bronze-based pearls, which give the pencil an extremely shiny effect on the surface. With their very fine particle size, these pearls create a “flat” and uniform brilliance, very similar to that of a metal foil. The result is particularly strong with silver, platinum, copper and bronze shades, but we can achieve a beautiful effect with other colours as well.

Certified brightness

Over the years the Confalonieri R&D team has developed a number of alternatives to create metallic-finish pencils that can be certified by different standards, according to customer demands. Depending on the requirements, we also use mica, silica or glass-based pearls, all conforming to various certifications and capable of creating great radiance in different colours. Glass-based pearls are especially bright, although the finish is a little less uniform and smooth: the result is a sparkling metal effect, not particularly “flat” but highly brilliant.

Brilliance and intensity

Metallic finishes stand out best in textures made by moulding and rich in oils, as the natural shine of the base enhances the brilliance of the pearls. Pencils made by extrusion and powdery textures are a little hazier, so they soften the sparkle a bit: with the right formula, however, we can create firm pencils with an excellent metallic effect. According to each client’s requests in terms of certification and shades, our team can perfectly balance consistency, luminosity and pigments to create private label lines with the desired colours and characteristics.
