Full colour, hassle-free: why we like soft textures

Easy to apply, with a good colour release, suitable for a daily makeup and for a sophisticated look: makeup pencils with a soft texture are always very popular, thanks to their versatility. What qualities should a well-made soft texture have? In Confalonieri we have a few key elements, when developing such products: let’s see the main issues.

Stable and compact

A well-made soft texture for makeup pencils strikes the perfect balance between compactness and creamy consistency: the best products glide smoothly on the skin with an even stroke, without crumbling or getting squishy. To achieve this result, the texture must include specific blends of plant-based oils and fats, carefully balanced to give structure and stability to the formula, while preventing blooming. We use raw materials that melt at body temperature, combined with other oils and waxes to create the ideal structure.

Smooth yet long-lasting

Soft textures are highly appreciated for their smooth glide and blendability, thanks to their creamy consistency. To create this effect, these formulas contain a high percentage of emollient oils, esters, and waxes with a low melting point: this, however, makes them less long-lasting on the skin compared to the pencils with a firmer texture.

The challenge for our R&D team was to perfectly balance the ingredients to improve the performance of these textures over time: we identified the right mix of oils, waxes, and powders, even adding other raw materials that have a “gripping” effect, to enhance colour longevity. Challenge completed: a large portion of our soft textures are backed by long-lasting tests.
